Gray Space
With any vision from God, there’s waiting.
Yet, we struggle with it.
I don’t think it's popular. Or something we like. Desire. Or seek.
Waiting is not how we see a vision fulfilled.
Still, it is woven through most stories, if not every story, in the Bible.
One popular metaphor in the Old Testament is water streaming through dry, desert places. Parched, thirsty areas where nothing living exists. But even in these places, waiting is needed.
Why? Because vegetation needs time to grow and produce.
For me, waiting can often feel frustrating.
Endless.
Unsettled.
I tend to question just about everything, including God.
The color I most associate with waiting is gray. A hue that I find nebulous, lacking vibrancy.
So, it is oftentimes with the development of a vision God gives us. Or blessings He seems to be promising.
We are waiting in space that seems gray.
As we recently read in Habakkuk, however, God doesn’t want us to give up. He wants us to wait for His vision. Because, “It will surely come” (Hab. 2:3, ESV).
I believe this is part of what happens in waiting. As we wait, we receive from God.
He brings about the vegetation of the vision that needs the waiting time to grow and produce.
